Ascent-before-cleaning
These glass parts are perfect for cleaning!

Probably one of my favorite things about using a vaporizer is how efficient they are in comparison to other smoking methods. One of the benefits of this is that you can save up your already been vaped (ABV) cannabis and in combination with the hash cleaned from your vape, you can create a fairly good cannabis e-juice for use with e-cigs. I’ve written a few articles in the past regarding the best way to make cannabis e-liquid from fresh bud (my most recent guide is here), but this guide focuses only on reclaimed hash and ABV and is fairly simple to follow.

What You’ll Need

  • One or more vaporizers in need of cleaning
  • 15+ grams of ABV (the lighter colored the better!)
  • Stovetop pot
  • Shot glass
  • Jar with a lid (large enough to fit all of your vaped bud)
  • 99% Isopropyl Alcohol (70% will work as well, but it takes longer for the mixture to evaporate)
  • Pyrex dish
  • Cheesecloth
  • Rubber band
  • Dropper bottle
  • Small scraper
  • EJMix with your choice of flavoring

Steps

Collect Vaporizer Hash

QWISO hash I’ve made previously using ABV

Once you’ve gathered all the necessary materials, the first step is to extract hash from your vaporizers. Although all vaporizers can be cleaned, only some can be given an alcohol bath to remove resin (primarily those with removable glass parts such as the Ascent or Cloud Evo Hydratube). Once you’ve gotten a few pieces to clean, you’ll want to pour some alcohol into your pyrex dish (enough to coat the vaporizer pieces), and then place any removable glass parts into the bath and let them soak in a well ventilated location. Silicone whip tubing can also be soaked in this mix to clean it, but PVC will degrade so make sure never to clean PVC with alcohol! Once your pieces are looking like new again, remove them and head on over to the next step!

Make QWISO From Your ABV

Some Medium Brown ABV

The next step in the e-liquid making process is make quick wash iso hash from your ABV. For this step, I recommend saving at minimum 15 grams of ABV, but more is always better, and placing it in your freezer along with the alcohol for at least twelve hours (this will improve the efficiency of the extraction) before using it. Next, take your glass jar out of the freezer and fill it with alcohol until the ABV is completely covered with alcohol. Add the lid and then shake the mixture vigorously for forty-five seconds to a minute, and then remove the lid and attach a cheesecloth to the top of the jar with the rubber band. Next, you’ll want to strain this mixture into your pyrex dish and then let the mixture dry completely in a ventilated area over the next day or so.

Create The E-Liquid

Once the hash has dried out, use your scraper to carefully scoop up the hash and then place it into your shot glass. Add your e-liquid into the shotglass and then place the glass in a pot on the stove on low heat while stirring contiguously (the goal is to heat the mixture just enough for the hash to be dispersed evenly). Once the hash has been dissolved in the mixture, remove the shot glass and then transfer the e-liquid into your droppper bottle with the included dropper.

Now that you’ve finished making your e-liquid, you will now have a dropper full of cannabis e-juice which can now be used in a variety of setups including rebuildable e-cig atomizers as well as vape pens such as the V2 Series 3 Pro (with e-liquid cartridge). However, because this guide uses 100% reclaimed product from your vape, there are some limitations to be aware of. Firstly, the strength of your mixture will vary greatly depending on how much ABV you have (plus how dark it is), as well as how much resin you manage to collect from your vaporizers. You can increase the potency of your e-liquid by either by mixing in some regular hash or dabs with your dried vaporizer hash, or by adding fresh bud in with your ABV during the quick wash. Furthermore, keep in mind that this liquid will most likely clog atomizers easier than usual, so using a large coil setup is preferable. If you have any suggestions you’d like to add, feel free to leave a comment!

  1. First thanks for blogging these informations, I really feel like this method is the best efforts/results process.
I followed these steps to produce my own concentrate.

I used 6 gr. also and after decarboxylating for 30 minutes I went ahead with the alcohol dilution and straining, then repeated the dilution and straining twice.
I then reduced the liquid to about 7 ml.
I heard that decarboxylation gives you about 25% THC concentration so my estimate is that my “tincture” or base, whatever you want to call it, is about 250mg/ml.

I am planing on dividing it in 2 batches and do 1 standard e-juice and 1 thicker. I am basing the calculations on concentration found in nicotine e-liquids. So my standard will have about 24 mg/ml and the other one roughly 32 mg/ml.

I am doing a 70PG/30VG mix and really hoping the throat hit will be increased as I am not a nicotine based liquid user but I am seeking the same vapour effects. I’m at a stall right now because I’m missing bottles and syringes but if I’m lucky I might just get them from local business tomorrow.

So, Mr. Vape, given that you seem to have already experienced with different mixes, do you think my plans will work? Have you heard of a product called “liquidizer”? It is used to dilute oils, waxes and such. They have it on amazon.
Have you tried QWISO based e-liquids ?
    Thank you…
    an enthusiastic new vaper !

  2. I would not go below a 50/50 vg/pg mix. Even at zero mg of nicotine this is going to still be one harsh hit even in a tank with little to no vapor production to speak of. For those who are going to be using a tank for there juice I would recommend at least a 60/40 vg/pg mix as the mix is still thin enough to be used with standard atomizers with out too much of it gunking up the coils. The trend today in mods is either mechanical mods or high watt regulated box mods. In this case a higher vg percentage would be desirable.

  3. Please clarify step 2. Do you mix the alcohol and ABV together in the glass jar, THEN put in the freezer for 12 hours and shake vigorously?

    OR

Do I put a bottle of alcohol, my ABV container, and a glass jar separately into the freezer for 12 hours, after which I open the jar, insert the other two frozen treats and shake vigorously?

Sorry, just want to know the proper procedure.

    1. No reason why not–ethyl alcohol is actually probably better if you can get ahold of it (because it won’t poison you if you don’t boil it all off). Another e-liquid recipe I read recommended Everclear, which is grain alcohol just like culinary solvent is, only usually lower proof. Lower proof alcohols would just take longer to reduce.

      1. I made a batch with culinary and with iso and prefer using ethanol. Evaporation was overnight and the flavor is richer. I actually can’t get everclear and my Rite Aid caps iso at 70%. so this is an awesome discovery.

  4. I saw a video on YouTube where a guy took the bud that was in the oven for 30 minutes and mixed it with the Vg/PJ and then slowly warmed it in a pot of warm simmering water and after 2 1/2 hours it released everything you needed and then he strained it all out with cheesecloth

    1. I’very been using “abv” to make e-liquid but I use a crock pot and it’s been going for over a month now. I didn’t have much to begin with but I just keep slowly adding to my jar as I vape and reheating it in the crock pot. Idk how good it’s gonna be :/
