What’s the Difference?

If you have just been introduced to the vape world and are still trying to find your bearings, you have probably come across the terms conduction and convection vaping. And no we’re not talking about your over however the same principle does apply, so take note. The method you use to heat up your ingredients can vastly alter your experience. Not only can it greatly change the flavour but your cooking choice can also affect how quickly you feel any effect and how much money you spend. Convection Vs Conduction

The discussion all comes down to heating. First born, conduction vaporizers use a more traditional heating method, they are of course still on the market today and some long-term cannabis enthusiasts would suggest they are the best solution. Convection on the other hand is what you might call the new kid on the block. They have since gained fast popularity and are now the most commonly used method. Convection offers a much different heating method and as a result, users get a unique experience.

Conduction

Conduction is known as the transfer of heat through a substance or a solid, this means that the heating element is making direct contact with your chosen material. The heating source is traditionally placed towards the bottom of the chamber and the product directly on top.The biggest reasons for their popularity is the lower price tag and a speedy heat up time to your desired temperature. In terms of use they tend to be very straightforward and you can heat up the coil but simply holding down on button, easy peasy!

The single biggest drawback of a conduction style vaporizer is that due to direct contact users run the risk of combusting their materials. A conduction vape won’t circulate heat within the chamber meaning users have the added task of moving around their product. If combustion does happen to occur it creates a health risk and also ruins flavour.

Convection

Convection vaporizers are able to heat materials through the transfer of thermal energy, whether it be liquid or gas, basically circulating hot air through the oven. The heat source will surround and pass through the product, however it never actually makes direct contact. A lot of vape users prefer convection solely for this reason. They also allow more accurate temperature control and a more even heating surface. In turn producing a higher standard and better tasting vapor. Convection nonetheless still has its drawbacks.

Due to the more complex heating system convection devices are much more expensive and also have a slower heat up rate. This isn’t necessarily seen as a bad thing and a lot of vape connoisseurs are happy to wait the extra time for the more even heating and better flavour. For some vape users the extra time may be a dealbreaker and this is understandable considering vaping is based around convenience. If you’re patient enough to wait though, the pay off will be long worth it.
